WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO PLAY COLLEGE SOCCER?

I decided to play college soccer after seeing what a unique model exists in the US. The opportunity to play soccer at a high level while studying at a university that places a high value on academics was just the perfect option for me!

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY AS A STUDENT-ATHLETE LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

Usually, my days in the U.S. started with going to my classes after breakfast in the cafeteria. Then we had some time to ourselves to do homework, work on projects, etc. If there wasn’t much to do, we would sit down with my boys and play FIFA or some card games.

Between 5-7 p.m. we had dinner in the cafeteria before our training session, which generally took place in the evening. Often we had team meetings, lifting, or video analysis sessions in between.

WHAT WAS YOUR ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE LIKE AS A STUDENT-ATHLETE?

In my 4 years as an undergraduate student, I learned a lot because the courses at my university were rather small. The model at my university was very good, because we were involved in the lessons and also had many projects and group work. In general, I would say that it is easier to follow the material compared to a normal university in Germany.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE TRAINING AND FACILITIES?

Our training sessions in the U.S. were usually very intense and demanding. Especially in the pre-season, a high value is placed on physical fitness, which is something you’re not used to in Germany. The facilities were not up to date, but we had two artificial turf fields, a gym, a pool, and an indoor hall with a running track.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL COLLEGE GAME DAY LOOK LIKE?

A typical game day was very similar to a normal day. We usually played after the Women’s team, so we would cheer the girls on during the first half and then go to the locker room to get ready ourselves. On away trips we were sometimes let out of class early and even had a few trips with overnight stays. On such trips we usually had cool team bonding activities.

WHY COLLEGE SPORTS?

SOCCER

Train daily at the highest level and compete with up-and-coming athletes from around the world.

EDUCATION

The USA offers you the best universities in the world: the academic content and methods are first-class and internationally recognized.

DEVELOPMENT

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to develop personally in a short period of time: gain experience with other cultures and learn perfect English.

CAREER

One thing is for sure: You will stand out positively for future employers with your international education.

DID YOU HAVE ACCESS TO PHYSICAL THERAPISTS?

We always had a physio available who was on the sidelines at training sessions and games. During the season, you had to make an appointment with the physio and then you could make an appointment with him. In case of major injuries, the university also had good contacts with a local doctor.

SUMMARIZE YOUR COLLEGE EXPERIENCE IN AMERICA

The decision to do my bachelor’s degree in the U.S. was the best decision I have ever made in my life. I had a great time in the U.S. and met people who are now my best friends. I have experienced many unforgettable moments that have shaped me and helped me to develop personally.

WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND OTHER ATHLETES TO GO TO THE USA?

I would recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity, because you gain experiences that stay with you for a lifetime. You spend the whole day with your best friends because you eat, train and study together. For me, it was a unique experience that you don’t find like that in Germany.
